Shottesbrooke | Winemaking

Nick Holmes, founder of Shottesbrooke, has been making wine for over 40 years, working with some of Australia’s most successful wineries and then under the Shottesbrooke label since 1984. Today Nick is Director at Shottesbrooke whilst Hamish Maguire is winemaker and continuing the Shottesbrooke winemaking tradition.

The passion is to produce the best wine possible from the fruit grown from the estate vineyards in the big, full bodied style famous in McLaren Vale with the Shottesbrooke touch of style and elegance.

Shottesbrooke makes wines that reflect the generous climate of the region, producing full bodied red wines and elegant, luscious white wines. The emphasis is on producing fruit forward styles, that are intense in varietal character. By owning vineyards that surround the winery, total control is maintained in delivering fruit in a fast and efficient manner to the winery for processing. Wines are also stored on site for barrel maturation and constant monitoring. In excellent vintage years the limited release reserve wines are produced. These wines are picked and matured separately from the normal range.

In 1996 Shottesbrooke constructed a state of the art winery complex to combine the latest in winery technology with handmade winemaking techniques. The winery’s excellent facilities has allowed Shottesbrooke to undertake various contract winemaking projects working with local, national and international partners.
