Established in 1984 Shottesbrooke Vineyards began with the first planting of vines by the founder and owner Nick Holmes. The vineyard itself was named after an estate in Berkshire, England, where Nick’s grandfather, Richard Holmes, was the parish vicar from 1905 to 1926. The design on the Shottesbrooke label is adapted from the wonderful stained glass window in the transept of the church.
Since its inception Shottesbrooke has embarked on an enterprise which has been built from the ground up – planting every cutting, establishing quality vineyards through to planning and designing the cellar door and winery.
Nick Holmes purchased a small grazing property at Myponga in the hills of the Fleurieu Peninsula in 1981 to establish his first vineyard and launch the Shottesbrooke wine label. In 1989 Nick acquired more land at McLaren Flat where the premium red varieties are grown. This is now also home of the Shottesbrooke cellar door and winery facility.
Today Shottesbrooke is proudly an estate grown, family owned, boutique winery. The company is focused on producing high quality wines and has a commitment to grow and expand its distribution while remaining a genuine boutique producer. |
